The Srisailam Pavilion, which houses the Heritage Museum at Gunfoundry, was constructed by the Irrigation and Projects department in 1976. It later came under the management of the department of archaeology and museums in 1990 with the objective of utilising the space for displaying artefacts retrieved from the Yeleswaram and Srisailam Reservoirs. The eclectic collection displayed in separate galleries at the museum includes terracotta figurines from Kondapur, Peddabankur, Dhulikatta and Gollathagudi; stone, wood, porcelain and ivory objects; Palaeolithic tools; and daily objects used by the neolithic man like axes, saddles, pottery, tools for the domestication of animals, hunting, agriculture and art.

The department has also conducted excavations in Chinnamarru, Peddamarru and Uppaladu (Mahaboobnagar district) and the recovered artefacts such as Megalithic objects used in burial practices, religious customs and beliefs are exhibited in the museum. The museum also houses scale models of the temples that were relocated from the Srisailam submergence area. Other displays at the museum include beads from Kondapur, iron implements, ivory combs, dice, terracotta moulds, coins, shell bangles, antimony rods and copper foils excavated from sites such as Kotilingala, Pedabankur and Dulikatta (Karimnagar District) and Neelakondapalli (Khammam District).
