In 1945, Sri Dantuluri Narayana Raju, an activist and freedom fighter, established the West Godavari Bhimavaram (W.G.B) College in order to make higher education accessible to the rural masses of Bhimavaram. It was later renamed Dantuluri Narayana Raju (D.N.R) College in 1964 to honour his memory. The Geology Department of the college maintains a Geology Museum which has natural crystals, crystal structures, minerals, zeolites, ores, rocks, fossils, landform models, structural geology models and precious stones in its repository. The key specimens include polymetallic nodules, collected from the Arabian Sea, and precious stones. In an exercise within the ambit of experiential learning, most of the specimen rocks have been collected by students during field trips and tours.
