Established in the year 1976, the District Museum in Pillalamarri has a collection of stone sculptures relocated from various areas like Poodur, Kalwakol, Gollathagudi and Vaddeman that range from 6th century AD to 16th Century AD. Along with this sculptural gallery, the museum has another building called the Jurala Pavilion where pre-historic objects like tools, coins and pottery, which were retrieved from the Jurala area, are displayed. It currently has over 120 stone sculptures on display and more than 80 sculptures are displayed in stores without any pedestal. It also has artefacts acquired from Amarabad of Mahbubnagar district and from the State Museum, Hyderabad. The museum is also located in proximity to a local Banyan tree which has been around for more than 700 years, making it a piece of history that lives and breathes.
