The District Museum in Kolanupaka, the erstwhile capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas in the 11th century, houses many Hindu and Jain artefacts. It is located in the Someswara Swamy Temple, which is in the vicinity of the historic 2000-year old Jain Mahavira temple. Sculptures from 6th century AD to 16th century AD, such as those of Mahavira, Chamundi, Nandi and Matsyavallabha make up the exhibits. Managed by the Department of Heritage, Telangana, the museum also has more than a hundred images as well as calligraphy pieces from the Chalukya and Kakatiya period in its repository. Some of the important artefacts include Ganapathi and Nataraja statues from Chalukya period (12th century AD), Nandi statue of Kakatiya period (13th century AD) and Kosthapanjara with Uma Maheswara from Kalyani Chalukya period (12th century AD).

Kolanupaka is located approximately 79 km from Hyderabad and 71 km from Warangal city. Tourists can access this place by bus or train from either Warangal or Hyderabad until Aler, from where they can hire private transport.
